About us
Council for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
The Council for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention is an independent expert body that systematically compiles an overview of existing research in the field of public health.
Vision
Our vision is to provide every citizen with the optimal conditions for enjoying a long, healthy life, both physically and mentally. Our mission is to enhance public health by gathering research and presenting evidence-based solutions for policymaking and practical implementation, while also sharing this knowledge to enrich public debate.
Our emphasis lies on health challenges where it is feasible to enhance both the population’s quality of life and years lived without disease through preventive measures. We compile a comprehensive overview of well-documented effective prevention initiatives and directly relay the results to policymakers and practitioners through easily accessible and actionable instructions.

The Council for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention operates independently of commercial, professional, and political interests. It receives ongoing financial support from The Danish Medical Association, TrygFonden, and Novo Nordisk Foundation, in accordance with an arm’s length principle.
Way of working
The cornerstone of the Council’s offerings is its theme reports, which compile existing research knowledge on specific public health subjects. To facilitate the translation of this knowledge into practical policy and everyday practice for political decision-makers, administrators, and professionals, it must be presented in formats and language tailored to their unique circumstances. Hence, the Council employs a diverse array of communication methods, including webinars, conferences, films, and leaflets, to disseminate easily accessible summaries of the research along with evidence-based advice and instructions to the target audience.
An Expanding Repository of Knowledge
On average, the Council releases 1-2 new theme reports annually, resulting in an ever-expanding collection of research-based reports on health promotion and prevention. The need for guidance and instructions provided by the Council persists long after a report’s initial release, which is why the communication effort extends over several months and even years following publication. As an illustration, the Council has maintained a dedicated focus on preventing poor mental health and the use of alcohol, tobacco, and nicotine among children and young people for many years. This endeavor will persist in the years ahead.
